Frequently asked questions
How many appointments will my baby need? How soon will we see improvements?
Many parents notice changes or improvements in their baby after one session. Most health concerns that can be addressed by craniosacral therapy will be best treated in multiple sessions, usually 2-4 over the span of weeks. Some babies have a longer road to optimal health and may benefit from weekly or monthly sessions on an ongoing basis. As with any treatment or therapy, results are individual and cannot be guaranteed.
Is there any obligation to continue craniosacral therapy after the first session?
Definitely not. A treatment timeline may be suggested to you after the first session, but whether treatment continues and on what schedule is entirely up to you.
Is craniosacral therapy covered by insurance?
Craniosacral therapy is usually not covered by insurance. Some insurance companies will reimburse for it or will allow use of HSA/FSA, much like massage therapy. Call your insurance company with any specific questions related to craniosacral therapy and your insurance plan.
Are there any reasons a baby shouldn’t receive craniosacral therapy?
Yes, there are rare reasons why a baby shouldn’t receive craniosacral therapy. These include: Increased intracranial pressure, recent stroke, cerebral aneurysm, intracranial hemorrhage (“brain bleed”), herniated medulla oblongata, recent skull fracture, cerebrospinal fluid leak, spina bifida (specifically a myelomeningocele), Arnold Chiari Malformation, or a recent unevaluated head injury. When scheduling an appointment, please answer the intake questions to the best of your ability to ensure CST is safe for your baby.
